Ecuador: After the Ecuadorian Congress is seized by indigenous organizations, Col. Lucio GutiΓ©rrez, Carlos Solorzano and Antonio Vargas depose President Jamil Mahuad. Gutierrez is later replaced by Gen. Carlos Mendoza, who resigns and allows Vice-President Gustavo Noboa to succeed Mahuad.
